My Review:
Rebecca Robin’s debut novel, The Serpent and the Wolf, is a solid read and an interesting start to the Dark Inheritance Trilogy. It admittedly took me a bit to get into this book – I think I had one or two false starts before I was hooked.
The magical and political systems are fascinating—lots of serpents behind closed doors and the like. And thankfully, this book doesn’t make a mistake that always drives me nuts. Vaasa is described as a competent person, and guess what! She actually is. Yes, she needs some guidance for her magic, but that’s not exactly her fault.
The romance is more of an enemies-to-lovers slow burn. And even then, the enemy part is fairly light. Vaasa and Reid may be from different countries, but they have more in common than not, and Reid made his stance clear from the start.
The Serpent and the Wolf does end on a cliffhanger, so consider yourselves warned! It’s not the worst one out there, so I think the wait will be bearable. I hope Aardvark gets the sequels.
