Review: A Bad Day for Sunshine by Darynda Jones

A Bad Day for Sunshine is the start of new beginnings, being the first in Darynda Jones’ Sunshine Vicram series. Personally, I’m hoping this series goes on for quite some time. This is a series that merges the vibes of a cozy mystery with the darker tones of a thriller, with delightful results. Continue reading

Review: Of Mutts and Men by Spencer Quinn

that I haven’t actually read the first nine novels in this series – my bad. I got so excited about the idea of a mutt mystery that I completely got ahead of myself. Still, I really enjoyed this mystery and had no trouble jumping right on in. Continue reading

Review: Thunderpaws and the Tower of London by Ben Housden and MonoKubo

I would like to nominate Thunderpaws and the Tower of London for having the cutest title I’ve seen in all of 2021. I don’t know why, but it just makes me smile (and laugh a little) every time I see or think of it. Thunderpaws and the Tower of London (see, there I go again!) is the first novel in the Nature’s Claw series. It was written by Ben Housden, with illustrations from MonoKubo. Continue reading

Review: The Scholars of Night by John M. Ford

Don’t you just love it when a book gets reprinted? I know I do. It gives me a chance to notice books that I missed the first time around. In this instance, the book in question is actually older than I am, which is always pretty cool. The Scholars of Night by John M. Ford is getting republished by Tor Books and is perfect for all the mystery fans in the house. Continue reading

Review: The Final Deception by Heather Graham

The Final Deception is the fifth novel in Heather Graham’s New York Confidential series, combining romance, crime, mystery, and suspense. I’ll confess that I mistakenly picked up this book without knowing it was part of a series. Yet, I didn’t have any trouble diving right into the plot. Continue reading

Review: Thief of Souls by Brian Klingborg

Thief of Souls is the start of a new mystery series (Inspector Lu Fei Mysteries #1), written by Brian Klingborg. It’s the first time (I think) that I’ve read a murder/mystery series based in China, so I was really excited to dive into this novel. Continue reading

Review: When a Stranger Comes to Town

When a Stranger Comes to Town is a collection of mystery and thriller short stories and was edited by Michael Koryta. Though I imagine it’s the promise of another Joe Hill short story that will have caught many reader’s attention (as well as all of the other amazing authors in this anthology). Continue reading
