Next up in my InCryptid read-through is Snakes and Ladders. Written by Seanan McGuire, this is one of the later Fran/Jon stories in the series – number 12, to be exact. The best part of this story, if you ask me, would have to be Alice and Mary.

Mary got her own tale in the last short story, and I’m glad to see she’s still hanging around. Though clearly, she’s got a lot of learning left. The sass and humor in this short were nicely done and are, without a doubt, my favorite part of the whole plot.

It seems like we can’t go far without seeing somebody obsessed with worshiping snake gods. You’d think that the dumb humans would learn that this is bad for their health at some point, especially if they force the Healy’s into the mix. Apparently, you’d be wrong.
