Short Story Saturday: The Bookstore Sisters by Alice Hoffman
Fans of Alice Hoffman probably rejoiced when her latest work was announced, a short story revolving around a bookstore and two sisters, The Bookstore Sisters. I finally finished reading it this week and am so glad I did. Continue reading →
Short Story Saturday: Skeleton Song by Seanan McGuire
Is everyone ready to squeal with me? Here we go: eeeee! As a huge fan of the Wayward Children series, the release of this short story absolutely made my day (month). Skeleton Song is the latest short story in the Wayward Children world. It follows Christopher, showcasing what the world beyond his door looks like. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: File and Forget by Seanan McGuire
Ha! It’s been a hot minute since I read any of Seanan Mcguire’s shorts that weren’t directly connected to one of her larger worlds (October Daye, InCryptid, etc.). So File and Forget was a pretty refreshing read, all things considered. As with many of the short stories I get by Seanan McGuire, File and Forget is available through her Patreon. You can sign up and get access to the entire backlog (which is pretty fantastic, if I may say so) alongside a new short every month. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: Of Strange Oaths by Seanan McGuire
Oh, Tybalt, don’t ever change. Of Strange Oaths is one of the many (MANY) short stories from Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series. Like many of the tales focused on Tybalt (the best character of the series), this one is set far before Toby was even born. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: Blocked by Seanan McGuire
The short stories within Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series are plentiful, for which I am grateful. Blocked is my most recent read and the first short story to give Antimony Price the lead. This is set following the second novel in the series – so before Antimony even got her own novel. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: What was I meant to do? By Seanan McGuire
What was I meant to do? Is another short story written by Seanan McGuire, and it fits in her InCryptid series. It’s set between the events of the first and second novels (Discount Armageddon and Midnight Blue-Light Special), but it doesn’t follow any of the main characters that we’re used to. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: Target Practice by Seanan McGuire
Next up on my InCryptid short story binge is Target Practice. Written by Seanan McGuire, this short continues the story of a young Alice Healy. And yes, she is just as stubborn and driven as any other member of her family. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: The Lay of the Land by Seanan McGuire
Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series is far from over, and I’m far from getting through all of her short stories! Next up on the list is The Lay of the Land, the first Alice-centric short in this world. Alice is the daughter of Fran and Jonathan Healy and a familiar character to those that have read the main series. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: The Star of New Mexico by Seanan McGuire
Ouch. If you thought the last short (Broken Paper Hearts) hurts, get ready for The Star of New Mexico. This is the fourteenth short in Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series, and it tells the story of Jonathan and Frances Healy. Continue reading →

Short Story Saturday: Broken Paper Hearts by Seanan McGuire
Broken Paper Hearts is the thirteenth short in Seanan McGuire’s Jon/Fran stories – part of the larger InCryptid series. It should have struck me that this number is an unlucky one long before I picked it up to read. Continue reading →
