4 kitties

Book Summary:

Katy Sweeney is wandering through Australia’s Western coast with a poorly thought-out plan to track down her missing sister. Phoebe went missing this time last year while traveling alone. So maybe Katy following in her footsteps isn’t the wisest idea.

Then there’s Beth. She’s on the run from her past and is lucky enough to accidentally cross paths with Katy. Maybe they can help each other here, Katy can provide a safe space, and Beth can help with the sister hunt.

My Review:

Red River Road was my first book by Anna Downes, and I am hooked! This book was twisty and had my brain going a million miles an hour. Did I expect some of the twists? Well, maybe one or two, but I still enjoyed the adventure.

Katy and Beth couldn’t be more different, yet they’re both at the right place and time to be there for each other. I liked their differing perspectives and what they had to offer to the story. The third perspective helped to enhance the mystery, but I didn’t find it as compelling.

Red River Road played with several classic tropes and touched upon real-world topics. It raised concerns about women traveling alone and how unfair those concerns are.

What really drew me in was the atmospheric writing style. You get the sense that you’re alone in a van, without help for miles. It was deliciously creepy and made me feel grateful for being safe and cozy in my living room!
