3 1/2 kitties

Book Summary:

Wren Darlington was born to a world already torn apart. The people are divided into two sides: those with psychic abilities and those without. Those with abilities, called mods, are hunted, and it’s safe to assume things do not go well for those caught.

Unsurprisingly, Wren falls into the mod category, meaning that her entire life has been one of secrets and hiding. Getting revealed means death, and so her Uncle trained her to camouflage perfectly. However, all it takes is one bad moment to turn everything around.

My Review:

I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter about Silver Elite for a few months now, so when a fancy sprayed edge edition popped up on BOTM, you better believe I snatched it up so fast! The only reason I didn’t dive right in is that I then got afraid that it wouldn’t live up to the hype (we’ve all been there).

So, does Silver Elite live up to the hype? I would say, mostly! If you’re looking for something more like The Hunger Games, you’re going to be disappointed. This dystopia doesn’t throw you headfirst into discussions about systemic oppression, though it does frequently portray such scenes.

The world is undeniably a dystopian setting, as there are dangerous politics, controlling, forcing people into districts, and so on. Throw in the psychic power dynamic, and it’s no surprise that it always feels like there’s a fuse waiting to be lit.

Silver Elite intentionally puts our leading hero into an impossible situation. She has to make many hard moral and ethical choices. Naturally, this also puts her in the perfect position to get stuck in a classic romantasy setting. Love it or hate it, this is a huge part of the book.

Silver Elite is a pretty solid debut! It has interesting worldbuilding elements, strong characters, and a lot of potential to grow with time. I can’t wait to see what the next installment in the series has in store.
