Book Summary:
Sloane has always had the tendency to lie. Some lies were small, harmless. Others were bold, making grand tales that were larger than life. Unsurprisingly, it’s the latter that would often land her in trouble.
That brings us to the first in a series of lies. It begins with a small while lie about being a nurse. This leads to her becoming a nanny for a wealthy family, where the tale slowly begins to spiral and spin out of control.
My Review:
If you’re looking for a thriller full of twists, look no further! Count My Lies is full of surprising twists and turns. Some may feel expected, while others will seemingly come out of left field. This book is a full-blown rollercoaster.
It’s safe to say that Sloane is an unreliable narrator. She practically tells us not to trust a word out of her mouth. So reading her perspective is a little bit like watching a trainwreck: you know something is going to go wrong, even if you don’t know the particulars.
Admittedly, some themes and twists feel familiar; it’s very much a thriller of this decade. If you’ve read enough of them, you’ll recognize some of the beats. Speaking of this book being part of this decade, there are a lot of Taylor Swift references. Go figure.
Interestingly, I’d say that Count My Lies had the opposite problem of most “okay” thrillers. While I wasn’t invested in the story for much of the earlier parts, the ending really surprised and hooked me.
