It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.
In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.
November’s BOTM choices are:
- An Academic Affair (Romance)
- Cursed Daughters (Contemporary Fiction)
- Her One Regret (Mystery)
- Lightbreakers (Speculative Fiction)
- Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore (Fantasy)

My Choices:
- Her One Regret – I’m always on the hunt for a new mystery or thriller author to fall in love with, and while Donna Freitas isn’t new, I haven’t read anything by
- The Everlasting – I love Alix E. Harrow, so buying The Everlasting was pretty much a given! Part of me does wish it had sprayed edges, though.
- Where He Left Me – I enjoyed the last few novels I read by Nicole Baart, so this was another auto-buy for me.
- 59 Minutes – As always, I’m still on the hunt for new thriller authors to fall in love with (see above), so I decided to give Holly Seddon a try.
- Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore –
November’s Aardvark choices are:
- Girl Dinner (Horror/Satirical Comedy)
- The Place Where They Buried Your Heart (Horror)
- Kill the Beast (Fantasy/LGBTQ+)
- Haven’t Killed In Years (Thriller)
- Isn’t It Obvious? (Romance/LGBTQ+)
- Thirst Trap (Literary Fiction/LGBTQ+)

My Choices:
- The Place Where They Buried Your Heart – Christina Henry is, you guessed it, another auto-read author for me. One of my favorite horror authors around!
- Kill the Beast – I’ve heard nothing but praise about Kill the Beast, so that, plus a pretty cover and compelling description, was enough to sell me here.
- Haven’t Killed In Years – In keeping with this month’s trend, Amy K. Green is another mystery/thriller author I’ve never read, so I have high hopes.
