Book Summary:
Olivia Dumont has lived her entire life under the shadow of her family history. As the only daughter of Vincent Taylor, she was always bound to get some attention from the locals. That only got worse when her dad threw himself headfirst into writing and selling his work.
So Olivia left the country, reinvented herself, and is now Olivia Dumont. She’s a ghostwriter on the verge of bankruptcy because she had the nerve to call out a pompous writer. Unfortunately, that means she can’t afford to say no to the job offer that just came across her table.
My Review:
Is it just me, or have there been a lot of ghostwriter thrillers this past year or two? At least this is very upfront about that, thanks to the title! (And seriously, I don’t mind the trend, but I do find it interesting).
The Ghostwriter is a tense thriller from start to finish, and there are plenty of twists in the mix. The first is pretty obvious (being in the book’s description), but there are plenty of others that were less anticipated.
There is a slight pacing issue in The Ghostwriter, largely because of the multiple perspectives. Some characters repeat information, things slow down while we go back to the beginning, etc. However, the variety of voices did elevate the story as a whole, so it’s a worthwhile addition.
Truthfully, The Ghostwriter is a family drama wrapped up to look like another writing horror/thriller. It hits the reader right in the feels, and while not every twist will be a major shocker, it still lands.
Highlights:
- Mystery Thriller
- Family Secrets
