It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.

In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.

My Choices:

  • Hazelthorn – Truth be told, I think I would have nabbed Hazelthorn even knowing nothing about it, because that cover screams “read me!” At least, that’s what it screams to me.
  • The Haunting of Paynes Hollow – I adore Kelley Armstrong, and it’s spooky season, so I didn’t need much more of a reason beyond that.
  • Red City – I’ve read and enjoyed Marie Lu’s works before, so I want to give this new fantasy adventure a try. The fact that it has sprayed edges is a major bonus in helping me make my decision.
  • The Second Chance Cinema – Magical theaters and a tale that promises to be full of nostalgia? Sign me up! This novel looks like it’ll be an interesting read, though, 50/50 it’ll make me cry.

My Choices:

  • All of Us Murderers – I was really torn between grabbing the sci-fi pick (Saltcrop) and the mystery pick (All of Us Murders), but ultimately I opted to go with the latter. I wish Aardvark had more than three picks; that would have made this month so much easier!
  • One Bad Night – Woo! This is Aardvark’s first anthology, and I would have been tempted by that regardless. Then they announced that it a.) was a horror anthology and b.) had a stunning naked cover. Yup, auto-buy. Plus, it has a few of my favorite horror authors in it.
  • Mate – Mate is the sequel to Bride, so obviously, I had to get the Aardvark version to match. I didn’t re-buy Bride, so I’m still hoping they match alright. I guess we’ll see.
