It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.
In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.
August’s BOTM choices are:
- Seduction Theory (Literary Fiction)
- All the Tomorrows After (Young Adult)
- The Man No One Believed (True Crime)
- Forget Me Not (Thriller)
- Immortal Consequences (Fantasy | Special Edition)

My Choices:
- Forget Me Not – As a huge Stacy Willingham fan, this book was pretty much an auto-buy for me. I guess I can thank BOTM for helping me find Willingham, and for keeping that addiction going…
- Immortal Consequences – The first in what promises to be a new fantasy series, complete with a stunning special edition? I didn’t need to know more before wanting to dive into Immortal Consequences.
- *The Book of Lost Hours (Historical Fantasy)* – The only reason I didn’t order The Book of Lost Hours from BOTM is because I already have a copy. If you’ve been craving something like The Midnight Library, I’ve been told this is the next best book to read.
- *Hemlock & Silver (Fantasy)* – I ordered a special edition through Bookshop.org, so I couldn’t justify getting a second (plainer) copy. T. Kingfisher is amazing, and I am thrilled that BOTM is jumping on the bandwagon.
August’s Aardvark choices are:
- Too Old for This (Thriller)
- What Hunger (Horror)
- The Once and Future Me (Sci-Fi/Mystery)
- The Hounding (Historical Fiction)
- Well, Actually (Romance)
- Moderation (Romance/Sci-Fi)

My Choices:
- Too Old for This – I’m still getting caught up on my thriller backlog, but Too Old for This was too tempting to pass up! A retired killer who gets pulled back into the life? I mean, it’s pretty much a question we’ve all wondered about when the thrillers end with the bad guy getting away, right?
- The Once and Future Me – Sci-fi and mystery all wrapped up into one? Where do I sign up?! But seriously, I sort of already did that, since this book got added to my cart so fast. It has decent ratings online, so I have high hopes.
