It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.
In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.
July’s BOTM choices are:

My Choices:
- You Belong Here – I was really on the fence about all the picks for BOTM this month. It’s the closest I’ve ever come to skipping! That said, I really wanted one of the add-ons (see below), so I decided to go with You Belong Here. Another thriller, which I’m dreadfully behind on reading, but it sounds good.
- This Princess Kills Monsters – I would have grabbed this book just because of the title and cover. The description makes it even more compelling, as it promises to be a humorous adventure playing with fairy tale tropes. Yes, please!
July’s Aardvark choices are:
- A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping (Cozy Fantasy/Romance)
- Salt Bones (Horror)
- Sounds Like Love (Romance/Magical Realism)
- House of Beth (Gothic/Horror/LGBT+)
- Party of Liars (Thriller)
- Hot Girls with Balls (Literary Fiction/Comedy/LGBT+)

My Choices:
- A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping – Apparently, I’m in the mood for cozy fantasy! That’s really no surprise. It looks cute and sounds cuter. This is normally a quick read I’d pick up from the library, but I figured I’d give it a go here.
- Salt Bones – This book teases the horror aesthetic right from the start, and I can’t wait to dive in and start reading. Mind you, I will 100% be reading this book during the daylight hours.
- Party of Liars – You know me! I’ve always got to give the thrillers a try, even if I am super behind on actually reading them at the moment. Here’s hoping I can fix that this month.
