It’s that time again! It’s time to do another book tag, and this month, I couldn’t resist one with a more fairytale vibe. I’m talking about Beauty and the Beast, obviously. The book tag was created by Kirsty @ Kirsty and the Cat Read.

A tale as old as time
A popular theme, trope, or setting you will never get bored of reading

Magical libraries

Give me a million books about magical libraries, bookstores, or enchanted librarians. I can’t get enough of it.

Examples: The Starless Sea, The Neverending Story (probably the reason for this love), Sorcery of Thorns, The Library of the Unwritten, Ink and Bone, The Midnight Library, The Spellshop

Belle
A book you bought for its beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful on the inside

These days, we are lucky enough to have an abundance of special editions. I cherish my OwlCrate editions, but there are countless other books that are striking on the outside and stunning on the inside.

Examples: Bride, The Longest Autumn, Foul Days

Beast
A book you didn’t expect much from but pleasantly surprised you

Alter Ego by Alex Segura.

After picking it up, I realized that Alter Ego was the second book in a series. So, I went into it with limited expectations, to say the least. I was blown away! Maybe it’s my comic book love talking here, but this thriller was so much more than I could have ever expected or hoped for.

Gaston
A book everyone loves that you don’t

Sigh. I’m sorry, I just can’t get into the ACOTAR series. I tried, I failed. Please don’t come at me.

Lefou
A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart

Jenks

While I adore all the characters within Kim Harrison’s The Hollows series, Jenks is one of my all-time favorites. He’s sassy and unafraid to speak his mind. He’s also not here to tolerate Rachel’s BS.

Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumiere, and Cogsworth
A book that helped you through a difficult time or taught you something meaningful

Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series.

I picked up the series a few months after my dad passed away, and while I’m not going to lie and say that it made everything better, they did help. Specifically, joining Toby on her grief journey (especially in the early parts) made me feel connected to the world and gave me the excuse to shut the rest of my brain off, even for a little bit.

“Something there”
A book or series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end

Dungeon Crawler Carl

I’ll admit that it took me a little bit to get into Dungeon Crawler Carl. Part of the problem is that I was afraid to let myself get invested for fear of what was going to happen to the cat (Princess Donut). I eventually got over myself, as the book helped prove that things would be okay, at least in that regard.

“Be our guest”
A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner

Dorothy Gentleman

Dorothy Gentleman is an interstellar detective; need I say more? As the main character from Murder by Memory, Dorothy has lived hundreds of lives, traversing across space and time. She’s seen it all, and frankly, I would love to hear what advice she’d have to give.
