This is not an April Fool’s Joke!
It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.
In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.
April’s BOTM choices are:
- The Sun Was Electric Light (Literary Fiction)
- The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits (Contemporary Fiction)
- Every Sweet Thing is Bitter (Mystery)
- Passion Project (Romance)
- Six Days in Bombay (Historical Fiction)

My Choices:
- Every Sweet Thing is Bitter – I have a rule: any new thriller will get my attention (and I’ll probably grab it). This is especially true with debut authors, as I love how book boxes can introduce me to new authors. Hence, my first pick of the month, Every Sweet Thing is Bitter.
- Our Infinite Fates (March Choice) – FOMO from last month! I think I didn’t order Our Infinite Fates last month because it would have delayed my box? There was a reason behind my logic, but I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity a second time. (Spoiler Warning for other book boxes: I just realized I skipped it because it’s an OwlCrate overlap. Oops.)
- Gifted & Talented (New Add-On) – I do hope I enjoy the new Olivie Blake novel. I didn’t love how The Atlas series ended, so I’m a tiny bit hesitant here, but the ratings look good, and it sounds amazing.
- Retreat (New Add-On) – Krysten Ritter is back with another thriller! I’m honestly curious to see how this goes, so I couldn’t pass it up. This will be the second novel I’ve read by the author/actor.
April’s Aardvark choices are:
- The Tainted Cup (Fantasy & Reprinting/Special Edition)
- A Drop of Corruption (Fantasy & Special Edition)
- Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng (Horror)
- Blood on Her Tongue (Gothic Horror)
- Any Trope But You (Romance)
- Dissolution (Sci-Fi/Thriller)
- Tilt (Contemporary Fiction)

My Choices:
- The Tainted Cup – So…I already have an Aardvark copy of The Tainted Cup, but since it was one of my favorite books of last year (top 3, easily), I decided to treat myself to the new Aardvark special edition, which includes a foil cover.
- A Drop of Corruption – I knew I was going to get my hands on A Drop of Corruption, even if it didn’t match my Aardvark copy. Thankfully, Aardvark nabbed this beauty, and it has a special foil cover too! I’m already in love.
- Dissolution – Dissolution is one part sci-fi and one part thriller, so obviously, I felt compelled right off the bat. It delves into technology, memories, and secrets. Yes, please!
