Book Summary:
Maggie Chase is at the end of her rope. Her life is falling apart, and now her editor is pressuring her to go on some crazy adventure – and at Christmas, no less! But maybe it’s exactly what she needs.
There’s just one problem – she’s not the only author going on the adventure. Her arch-nemesis, Ethan Wyatt, is also along for the ride. If that doesn’t make this trip unbearable, the murder mystery they’re about to stumble into will.
My Review:
So, I’m just a touch late in reading The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year. I should have read it around the holidays but didn’t even get to it until late January. Oops? I still really enjoyed the lighter tone and adventure.
The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year is a murder mystery for and by book lovers. Maggie and Ethan are authors trying to solve a mystery involving an author (Maggie’s favorite).
Along the way, they get themselves into no end of trouble, as is always the case when lots of (potential) money is involved. Throw in a romantic subplot and lots of snow, and suddenly, you have a story fit for the holidays.
The mystery wasn’t the most complicated, though it sometimes got dark. Despite this, the overall tone was lighter and…not joyful, but close. Think of a tone similar to Knives Out, and you’ll have the right idea.
This was my first novel by Ally Carter, but I enjoyed it enough that I’d pick up her second book without hesitation. So, do you have any recommendations?
