Book Summary:
DC Ffion Morgan is always on the verge of trouble in her small Welsh town. More accurately, she’s always pushing the boundaries of her job, driving the higher-ups to distraction. Throwing an incorrigible dog into the mix did not help.
However, things are happening in her small town, and her bosses need her. There’s a reality TV show all about secrets being filmed right here, and it only takes one production day for things to go downhill.
My Review:
A Game of Lies is the second novel in the DC Morgan series and was a decent addition to the series. I don’t think it was as strong as the first, but here’s hoping it returns for the next novel.
Ffion is one of those characters who makes readers want to scream. She’s stubborn and always acts before she thinks, which inevitably causes lots of problems—leaving the readers watching the trainwreck in slow motion. There were times when this dynamic got to be borderline too much, especially as she let it affect her family life, love life, and work. It’s a problem, right?
A Game of Lies is split into multiple perspectives. Ffion is the primary, with DC Leo Brady taking the secondary perspective. The contestants also have a POV, though their chapters are fewer and farther in between.
The whole reality television bit was compelling, but maybe that’s because I don’t watch reality TV (and thus can’t comment on accuracy). Meanwhile, the ending would have 100% made me think the series was over, had the next book not already been announced.
