It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.

In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.

February’s BOTM choices are:

My Choices:

  • Black Woods, Blue Sky – A dark fairy tale, where do I sign up? This book sounds amazing, though I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never read anything by Eowyn Ivey. I hope I love it.
  • The Bones Beneath My Skin – Ahh! The new TJ Klune book!! I don’t remember if this is the first time TJ Klune has been on BOTM,  but I’m excited either way! This one promises to have Stranger Things vibes, so I’m here for it.
  • Famous Last Words – Gotta love it when BOTM gets advanced access to new books, especially by authors we enjoy! Missing person, cryptic notes, hostage situation, the works.
  • Water Moon (new add-on) – Water Moon isn’t one of BOTM’s main picks, but it is a new add-on, and I’m so happy to have it! I know the regular print version of this book is supposed to be stunning, but I am trying to cut back on my book budget a bit. Here’s hoping I don’t regret that.

February’s Aardvark choices are:

My Choices:

  • Hungerstone – Ohh, a feminist retelling of Carmilla?!? Yes, please! I grabbed it based on that description alone, but the comps of Emilia Hart’s Weyward didn’t hurt.
  • Death of the Author – If you haven’t read anything by Nnedi Okorafor, you’re missing out! Death of the Author is a sci-fi and fantasy novel about storytelling, artificial intelligence, and the value of stories.
  • Dead Money – It’s pretty much a rule that I’ll nab any thrillers that come up on BOTM or Aardvark, so of course, I got Dead Money. It’s about Silicon Valley, capitalism, and the corruption of CEOs. So we’ll see how that one goes!
