It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.

In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.

My Choices:

  • A Killing Cold – Over the years, I’ve really gotten hooked on Kate Alice Marshall’s books, so anything by her is pretty much an auto-buy, especially if it’s on BOTM! This one looks like it starts with a romance before throwing in a heavy helping of mystery, intrigue, and maybe a dark past (one can hope!).
  • A Sea of Unspoken Things (new add-on) – Apparently, it’s already time for the next Adrienne Young book! I’ll confess that I didn’t love her last one all that much, so I’m thrilled to have an affordable option to grab this one. Magical realism and thriller should make for a perfect story in my books.

My Choices:

  • Cross My Heart – Despite her name sounding very familiar to me, I’ve never actually read anything by Megan Collins, so I decided now was a good time to try her latest novel. I would love to add another thriller author to my roster, so fingers crossed!
  • We Lived on the Horizon – Since both mystery/thriller books were an auto-grab for me, I had to decide between sci-fi or fantasy for my final selection. I ended up going with We Lived on the Horizon a) because it sounded really interesting and b) I wasn’t up for the religious trauma trigger warning on Motheater.

After the Ocean – Again, I’ve never read anything by Lauren E. Rico. Three new authors for me, thanks to Aardvark! This is why I love this book box. Anyway, it looks like it’s both a mystery and a thriller, so here’s hoping I love it.
