It’s that time of the month again! Time to talk about our monthly selections for subscriptions like BOTM (Book of the Month) and Aardvark Book Club! I’m currently enrolled in both, mostly because I’m indecisive. I also love that both boxes tend to offer VERY different selections.

In both subscription services, you can choose from a selection of books each month. BOTM will offer between five and seven new picks a month (plus a selection of add-ons) with a cap of five books per box. Aardvark offers a selection of five or six books and caps readers at three books a box.

My Choices:

  • Beautiful Ugly – So it’s no secret that I love thrillers! I’m also a fan of Alice Feeney, so seeing her new book here was an auto-selection (for me). Beautiful Ugly promises to be a dark thriller about marriage and revenge.
  • The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year – This book is labeled as a romance on BOTM, but Goodreads has it counting toward several genres, including holiday (duh). mystery, and contemporary. I figured it’d be fun to try it this holiday season.
  • *The Thirteenth Child – I love love LOVE Erin A. Craig. So I already pre-ordered The Thirteenth Child months ago (I went for the special edition, too!). So I didn’t need to get it from BOTM. I just wanted to mention that I WOULD have gotten it if I didn’t own it.

My Choices:

  • Alter Ego – So, good news/bad news. The good news is that I’ve read books by Alex Segura in the past and loved them! The bad news? I didn’t realize Alter Ego is the second in a series. Hopefully, that won’t be a problem.
  • Under Loch and Key – Apparently I was in a mood for cozy this month! That actually holds between the chill and the season. This book promises to be a cute paranormal romance, which sounds perfect right now. Also! It’s signed, yay.
  • The Serpent and the Wolf – Despite the naming schematic, which feels all too familiar, I haven’t heard of The Serpent and the Wolf. It looks interesting, high-stakes political intrique and fantasy wrapped in one.
