Oh, Tybalt, don’t ever change. Of Strange Oaths is one of the many (MANY) short stories from Seanan McGuire’s October Daye series. Like many of the tales focused on Tybalt (the best character of the series), this one is set far before Toby was even born.

Have you ever wondered about Tybalt’s past? We all know that he was once the King Cat of London – and that he left. More than that, readers know that he can never return to the place he once called home. After reading Of Strange Oaths, we now know why.

I should mention that this particular story shouldn’t be read if you’re feeling emotionally vulnerable – or if you can’t stand to hear about the loss of a cat. It’s a heavy-hitting tale, but this is Tybalt’s past we’re talking about.

Maybe because I’m a cat lover, but Of Strange Oaths cut right to my heart. It hurt to read. But it also did a delightful job of showing the fierce love and dedication that lies within Tybalt’s heart. Gotta respect that.
