What Do You Like About Buying New Books?
Let’s be real – there is something incredibly satisfying about buying a bunch of new books. A new book signals limitless potential, and who doesn’t love that? Additionally, I enjoy buying/preordering books from my favorite authors because it allows me to support them.
How Often Do You Buy New Books?
I used to buy new books ALL the time, but I’ve been working hard on cutting back on my book spending. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still reading all the new releases I want, but I’ve been taking more and more advantage of my local library (I am very lucky to have such a good library so close).
Bookstore or Online Shopping – Which Do You Prefer?
I prefer bookstore shopping, but since I have limited options around here, I tend to do most of my shopping online. These days, I’ll try to buy directly from the authors when I can (such as Elisabeth Wheatley’s online store), but failing that, I’ll buy from Bookshop.org.
Do You Have a Favorite Bookshop?
Yes! White Birch Books in North Conway, NH. Is it anywhere near me? No. Do I still love it? Yes.
Do You Preorder Books?
Yes! I’ve been preordering less this year (again, because I’m trying to limit my book budget), but I still preorder for all my favorite authors. I’ve tried a few places to preorder from, but have settled on Bookshop.org. I know I won’t get them on release day, but I figure if I have to wait, I might as well support a good cause.
Do You Have a Monthly Book Buying Limit?
More or less. I don’t have a specific number, but I’m a lot stricter with myself about what I am and am not allowed to spend. I’m still allowing for BOTM and Aardvark, plus some preorders, but largely that’s all I’ve been allowing, minus an exception here and there. It’s keeping my TBR stack under control…well, it’s keeping it from getting exponentially worse, at any rate.
Book Buying Bans – Are They Something For You?
Obviously, I’m open to trying book buying bans – but I add so many clauses that they’re not the most effective. I suppose it’s more accurate to say I’m just limiting my budget.
How Big is Your Wishlist?
Eh. The TBR list of books I don’t own is massive, but I haven’t bothered to add most of them to a physical list, so who knows.
