Review: Chaos by Constance Fay

I’m always pleasantly surprised by the choices Constance Fay makes about the Uncharted Hearts series. I never know which character will become the new protagonist, but I do know that I’ll enjoy their story. Enter Chaos, the tale that puts the engineer known as Caro at the forefront.

Book Summary:

Caro Ogunyemi is an engineer with a bit of a dark secret, and she’d like to keep it that way, thank you very much. Unfortunately, her most recent adventure makes it blatantly clear that the past always comes back to haunt you.

Her solo mission requires her to infiltrate a prison planet, free some allies (coworkers, of a sort), and get her hands on sensitive data. Piece of cake, right? Of course, it’s even more troublesome than that, as this planet is run by the Pierce family.

My Review:

I’m always pleasantly surprised by the choices Constance Fay makes about the Uncharted Hearts series. I never know which character will become the new protagonist, but I do know that I’ll enjoy their story. Enter Chaos, the tale that puts the engineer known as Caro at the forefront.

From book one, it was pretty clear that Caro had some secrets she’d rather keep locked away. Naturally, her solo story breaks those wide open, throwing her headfirst into a dangerous situation. It also happens to put her on a path for romance, so she probably would have taken the risk regardless.

Sadly, most of the other characters of Calamity are largely not present in this novel. They make calls and cameos, but that’s it. Given this particular plot, it makes sense (there’s no way Temper and crew would have been able to sneak their way through this one), but I still would have liked to see more of them.

Chaos is a fun and lighthearted adventure, despite the heavy stakes at play. It’s the perfect sort of read if you’re looking for a sci-fi romance or just an escape from the world.
