Book Summary:

Perihelion has a lot to process after meeting Murderbot, to say the least. However, missions must still be run, even when there are new friends out in the great expanse of space. Notably, Peri’s crew is about to try to tackle a corporate-controlled station to help the residents before it’s too late.

Note: The events of this short take place after Artificial Condition, so you’ll want to read that first. Truthfully, you probably also want to read through the series, including Network Effect, to get the full appreciation for the characters involved.

My Review:

Another short story in the world of Murderbot, yes, please! Not only is this tale set in a universe I love so much, but it offers rare insight into a very different character, Perihelion, aka Peri or ART.

Peri is pure sarcastic perfection, and I love it. It’s hard not to adore this character and its antics, and it’s nice getting a chance to see Peri alone with its crew. This story not only provides context for how Peri and crew interact (without the addition of SecUnit and/or its crew) but also highlights how they work as a team. If you’re interested in seeing more of that worldbuilding, it’s worth reading.

Obviously, this short is especially worthwhile if you want to see ART processing its interaction with SecUnit. Realistically, that’s something most Murderbot fans probably want to see more of, right?

Highlights:

  • Cyberpunk meets Solarpunk
  • Sarcastic Characters
  • Space Adventures
  • Artificial Intelligence
