It’s that time again! It’s time to do another book tag. I probably should have done the birthstone book tag during March (birthday month), but nobody said I was organized or on top of things. This book tag was created by booktuber Jay G.
January (Garnet): Associated with warding off negative forces and dark energies.
Name a book with the darkest/evilest character you can think of
Sauron
So, I know that may be a basic/obvious answer, but it feels like a good pick. Sauron was all about taking/destroying for the sake of power. Just look at what his orders did to places like the Shire.
February (Amethyst): Purple is associated with royalty.
Name a book with regal qualities. You can base this off of characters of choose the king of all books.

A Crown of Echoes series by Brindi Quinn. Queen Merrin is the perfect fit for this prompt, as are the many other characters in this world.
March (Aquamarine): Washed out.
Name a “wishy washy” character, a character who is not strong or a follower.
Wow. I hate this prompt. Why the hate for March?! I’m going to pretend this prompt is actually addressing aquamarine, which represents clarity and harmony.

The Secret Garden
It may not directly be about harmony, but it encouraged a young me to be inquisitive, embrace changes, and welcome truths. So in a way, I’d like to think it helped me find some harmony in my life.
April (Diamond): A Diamond in the rough.
Name a book that you loved but is not well known.

Crown Duel by Sherwood Smith
I adored this duology when I was younger, and despite throwing myself headfirst into the bookish community, I rarely hear this one come up. Granted, it’s been a minute since I read it, but I still loved every second of it.
May (Emerald): Said to balance energy.
Name two characters who balance each other well.

Kate Daniels and Curran Lennart
Every time I sit down to do one of these, I promise myself I won’t bring up the Kate Daniels series or Pride and Prejudice to try and shake things up. Then I find I prompt where I just can’t resist…so…
Here’s the thing: the two are perfect counters to one another and make a solid team. One is strong, while the other is weak, etc. More importantly, they care about each other enough to call one another out about the BS in life.
June (Pearl): Associated with loyalty.
Name a character who is loyal to the end.

Oreg
I haven’t reread Patricia Briggs’ Dragon Bones in over a decade, and that book still lives rent-free in my mind. The story is fantastic, but the characters are what bring it to life. Oreg is a pivotal character in the story, and despite all he’s gone through, he is shockingly loyal to the kingdom and Ward.
July (Ruby): Blood Red.
Name a book that made your blood boil, one that made you angry.

Ohhh, tough one. I’m assuming this means it made me upset about a situation portrayed or characters within the story, as opposed to hating the book. I know I’ve felt this way a million times while reading, but I’m struggling to think of one on the spot.
I guess most recently, it’d be The Serpent and the Wings of Night? It felt like everybody was lying to the main character for their own reasons, making the situation a thousand times worse. That always grinds my gears.
August (Peridot): Pale green (it pales in comparison to other gems).
Name a supporting character who you like better than the main character.

The Crows and other Terra Indigene from Anne Bishop’s The Others series.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore Meg and Simon, but the secondary characters in this world? I cherish them. The crows and elementals in particular. If you know, you know.
September (Sapphire): Blue like the ocean which is calming.
Name a book that had a calming effect on you.

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells
So, I’m cheating and listing a series instead of a singular book, but it applies. I’ve read the series a dozen times. I also own a copy of all the audiobooks and basically listen to them on repeat when I need to relax. They’re my go-to calming series.
October (Opal): Iridescent.
Name an iridescent book, this can be a book with a beautiful cover (shiny, lots of color) or you can base it off a character (quirky, colorful).
Oh! So, to me, a book has to have lots of colors (ideally purple or teal) to be labeled shiny or pretty. Or it needs sprayed/stenciled edges, which is an auto-shiny label in my book. My favorite “shinies” are The first three books in the Locked Tomb series, specifically the Illumicrate version. They’re stunning.
November (Topaz): Associated with resilience.
Name a book with a character who rises to the top in a time of adversity.
There are SO MANY good choices here! I want to go with the Six of Crows team, specifically Inej. Or Genya (though you have to read both Six of Grows and Shadow and Bone to see her whole story).
December (Blue Zircon): Associated with friendship.
Name a book with a friendship you want to be apart of.
Hrm. I love how caring and supportive the friend group/found family is in Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. They all love and support each other despite any oddities.
