It’s that time again! Time for a new book tag. This time around, it felt appropriate to pick something more seasonal – literally! The Autumn book tag was created by booktuber Amy Jane Smith.

Are there any books you plan on reading over the autumn season?

The Life Impossible, The Blue Hour

In reality, I have about two giant stacks of books I’d like to get through before the end of the year. But these are some of the ones I would like to prioritize.

September brings back to school memories: What books did you most enjoy studying? And what were your favorite and least favorite school subjects?

The Vanishing Velázquez, Ansel Adams

So, I have to confess that I actually love (and I do mean love) art history books. Textbooks, biographies, you name it, I’ll read it. These are just two examples of my favorites, but again, I’m pretty much willing to try any of them.

October means Halloween: Do you enjoy scary books and films? If so, what are some of your favorites?

Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic

I tend to prefer cozy Halloween movies. Maybe that makes me lame; I don’t know. I do love a good horror novel, though! Maybe because I can easily take breaks without feeling ashamed? I also enjoy watching people play horror games (oddly specific, I know, but I think having the other person as an additional filter helps). In particular, I love watching horror games that include a good storyline, such as The Dark Pictures Anthology games.

With November, it’s time for bonfire night & firework displays. What’s the most exciting book you’ve read that really kept you gripped?

Knock Knock., Open Wide

Ohhh this book made my heartrace. Admittedly, this is the first book to come to mind because I read it recently, but I still think it fits the bill. Check out if you love horror novels that play with the haunted childhood show trope. Chills.

What book is your favorite cozy comfort read?

The Murderbot Diaries

The irony of this being my go-to comfort read is not lost on me (for non-MurderBot fans, the main character, MurderBot, watches a few shows on repeat as a sort of comfort). I’ve read the books a dozen times and listened to the audiobooks…I don’t even know how many times. I’m lucky they don’t cap how many times you can listen to them because I probably would have had to buy them twice over, at least.

Curled up with a good book, what is your hot drink of choice?

Hot cocoa! Or tea. Both are delightful, depending on what you’re looking for.

Any plans you’re looking forward to over the next few months?

Reading, relaxing, and re-investing in myself.
