It’s that time again! Time for another book tag. There are a million to choose from, but this month I wanted to go with something more thematic, so I picked The Addams Family Book Tag, created by booktuber Hannah Tay.

Morticia Addams, the Mother and a Witch: What is your favorite witch book?

Rachel Morgan is a flawed person – and a witch. As the series goes on, we learn more about her world, her magic, and what makes her different. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and am tickled that after years, we’re getting new novels.

Anyway, I picked this series because I enjoy the magic system and the character development. Plus, all the drama.

Gomez Addams is a loving father: Who is your favorite fictional dad?

Eddard Stark

Forgive me if it’s cliche, but I’ve got to go with Eddard Stark here. (My first choice would have been Gomez Addams, but since that’s been taken…). He did the best he could, doing right by his children as right as he could, given the times, at any rate.

Uncle Fester Addams can generate electricity: What books make you light up so much that you can’t stop talking about it?

Gideon the Ninth (The Ninth House #1) by Tamsyn Muir

Gideon the Ninth

Don’t make the mistake of letting me talk about Gideon the Ninth. I won’t shut up, and you’ll regret it. Worse, I have a ton of memes and the like that I would love to share, so that’s a whole can of worms.

The thing I love about Gideon, outside of the series itself, is the community. It’s a fun (and comical) community that is quick to delve into details or crack a joke.

Wednesday Addams is obsessed with death: If you could have killed off a character in any book, who would it have been?

Horus

I mean, seriously. It would have stopped a whole lot of drama (and protected my space puppy, Loken). In truth though, I struggled with this prompt. I am certain (ABSOLUTELY certain) that there have been characters I wanted to see gone. But none of them really popped to mind, not quickly enough for my liking.

Pugsley Addams has a vicious nature and plays nasty pranks on everyone: Who is your favorite villain?

Gollum, Smaug, Sauron

I have always, and will always, love the villains in LOTR. It’s a basic answer, I know. But they’re well-written and interesting. Best of all, they all have different points to make or lessons to learn from, which I appreciate.

Second Place: Overhaul

I will include a second-place winner because my answer was a little basic. Overhaul from MHA. I never understood why his arc didn’t gain more popularity – it blew me out of the water. Here we have a villain with contamination OCD (something I personally deal with, so that hit hard), who will go to any lengths to get what he wants (the elimination of quirks) and who, ultimately, gave us one hell of a fight.

Lurch is based on Frankenstein and a zombie: What is your favorite adaptation of a story?

Fractured Fables

I adore Fractured Fables by Alix E. Harrow. This duology took one of the most heartbreaking fables and gave it ownership. I’m talking about Sleeping Beauty. This was always my least favorite of the fairytales, for obvious reasons (if you don’t know the full story/subtext here, look it up; I don’t want to bring down the mood too much here). So, I was delighted with the whole concept, especially as it continued to empower other princesses. It’s perfect.

Grandmama is an old classic witch: What is your favorite old classic horror book?

The Raven

A classic story, but an excellent one nonetheless. It’s one of my favorites and easily one of the most memorable stories for many horror readers.

Show us some of your horror books

I could list a dozen more, but I really don’t want to take up this entire post with book covers.

What are you going as for Halloween this year?

Uh. A crazy cat lady? By that, I obviously mean myself. Sorry for the bad joke.

I’m not planning on dressing up. Or going out. I need a chill holiday season, which for me means spooky movies and horror novels.

Favorite Halloween films!!!

While I love a good horror novel, I tend to like my Halloween movies to be a bit more…cozy. So, my two favorites are Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic.
