How many books are you planning to read in 2024?

My goal is to read at least three hundred books, not counting comics, manga, or graphic novels.

Name 5 books that you didn’t get to this past year but want to make a priority in 2024.

  1. The Serpent Sea

I started reading through all the older Martha Wells books, but I’ve only gotten around to one of her Books of Raksura series. I really love what I’ve read so far, and want to make it a priority to read the rest of them this year.

2. Wolfsong

Tor recently (2023) re-released T.J. Klune’s Green Creek series. It seemed like the perfect time to dive in, especially since I love his writing. That said, I was bad and never actually got around to it. I’m hoping to read them all in 2024.

3. Grey Sister

Red Sister isn’t exactly a new book, but I read it for the first time in 2023 (thanks to a book club). I fell in love, but never got around to reading the rest of the series. Again. I’m clearly quite bad about doing things like this. Note to self: do better.

4. Paladin’s Strength

Speaking of series I’ve only read the first of, there’s The Saint of Steel. The first book was a blast, and I’m certain the next one will be just as good. With any luck, I’ll get through Paladin’s Strength and the rest of the series this year.

5. Babel

Babel is the only BOTM pick from 2023 (or was it the end of 2022?) that I didn’t read this year. I made a promise to myself not to let the BOTM backlog get to bad, so I’d like to read this one lone figure before it makes friends.

What genre do you want to read more of?

I’ve been reading more horror lately, which has been terrifying but fun. I would also like to read more dark academia – unsurprisingly this is a sub-genre I can really get behind.

Name 3 not-related-to-book goals for 2024

  1. Thanks to a few health issues, I am chronically low on a few different vitamins. I’m…okay at remembering to take them, but I could (read: should) be better. One of my biggest goals for 2024 is to take ownership of my health and really step up my vitamin care.
  2. Photography is a hobby I enjoy, but the last two years I really let it fall to the wayside. I’m hoping to get back into it in 2024. I’m not aiming to become a professional photographer or anything like that. I don’t need to sell prints or put pressure on myself. I just want to encourage myself to enjoy a creative outlet again.
  3. Finish what you start. That one probably needs a bit of an explanation. I’m really good at starting projects. I’m not as great about actually finishing those projects. So, one of my goals going forward is to try and finish a project before I move on to the next. Not only will it help me move along, but it will hopefully help my anxiety.

What’s a book you have had forever and are determined to read?

Ooph. How about the entirely of The Stormlight Archive. I treated myself to the series a few years ago, but I’m barely making a dent in them. I really have to change that.

One word that you’re hoping 2024 will be

Kinder.
