I’m starting the holiday season a little early, but who doesn’t love to celebrate? Of course, one of the best ways (for me) to celebrate the holidays is by talking about books and bookish things!
Credit to Falling Down the Book Hole for this tag.
On the first day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
A partridge in a pear tree
The partridge stood alone in the pear tree? What is your favorite stand alone?

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab. Yes, there are countless other books I could have chosen, but this book resonated with me from the start. So it was the first book to come to mind while doing this tag. What are some of your favorite stand aloe books? I’m always looking for a new one to fall in love with.
On the second day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Two turtle doves
Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Oh gosh. This one is tough. I have one obvious, and one that may be a little controversial (in that they didn’t canonically get together, that is). The first is Curran Lennart and Kate Daniels. I love them, individually and as a pair. The second is not bookish, but I am still on the Katara/Zukp ship train. Sue me.
On the third day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Three French hens
In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

Best is a bit subjective, especially for any reader who enjoys several different genres. His Dark Materials is one of my favorite trilogies (yes, I know it gets more books later, but that’s not what I’m talking about right now). I also adore the Shades of Magic trilogy (again, more got added later).
On the fourth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Four Calling Birds
Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favorite series?

My favorite series of all time? Probably the Kate Daniels series. I’m a huge fan of urban fantasy as a whole, so this series is pretty much a highlight of that love. That said – I’m always looking for a new urban fantasy series to get swept again, so keep those recommendations coming!
On the fifth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Five golden rings
One ring to rule them all! Who is your favorite villain/antagonist?

Are we talking literal antagonist here? Or an allegory? If the former, I’m going to have to go with Thrawn. I know not everyone would define him as a villain, and I think that’s one of the things I love about him. Also, he adores art and culture, so he’s got that going for him. For the latter, it’s got to be vanity, a la The Picture of Dorian Gray.
On the sixth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Six geese a lay
Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite world/world-building?

Oh! Favorite world. That’s another tough one. I’m going to go a bit more general and talk about world-building. Or rather, world-builders. One of my favorite indie authors, Brindi Quinn, is the queen of world-building. I’ve loved every world she’s created, as they’re all so compelling, creative, and wonderful. Best of all, they’re all distinct from one another, meaning I can dive into any mood I feel like at any given time.
On the seventh day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Seven swans a swimming
Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick to make a hero rock! Who’s your favorite animal sidekick?

I pretty much always fall in love with the animal sidekick in any book (or movie). Naturally, this means I get my heart broken more often than I would like, when the animals are harmed. As for my favorite. Hrm. I do adore Spike from the October Daye series – they’re a Rose Goblin and sound to be just about the cutest thing of all time. I want want SO bad.
On the eighth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Eight maids a milking
Milk is SO 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

Legends and Lattes! Sorry for shouting, but that’s an easy one. This book blends cozy fantasy with food/beverages, and I love it with all my heart. The sequel just came out actually, and I really do need to read it…
On the ninth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Nine ladies dancing
Dancing is just one skill of a lady! Who is your favorite kick-ass female lead?

I’ve answered Kate Daniels far (FAR) too many times, so I will endeavor to give a different answer here. How about Vin from The Mistborn Saga? She’s amazingly tough and resilient, both physically and emotionally.
On the tenth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Ten lords a leaping
Leaping lords? How about who is your favorite leading lad?

I really REALLY want to say Murderbot here, but it wouldn’t appreciate me gendering it. So instead I’m going to go with a new favorite from a different Martha Wells book – I adore Kai. They have a dark past, complex magic, the works. I’m really hoping that Witch King is the first in a series, but only time will tell.
On the eleventh day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Eleven pipers piping
Where would we be without music? What is your favorite book or bookish thing that deals with music? (It can be about music, reference music a lot, etc.)

Divinity 36 by Gail Carriger. This book is so different and fun. It plays with pantheon/worship/pop culture themes alongside music and so much more. I highly recommend it to anybody looking for something unique (and once again, I really have to read the rest of this series!).
On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me:
Twelve drummers drumming
Drum roll please…what is your favorite read of this year?

Not holding back with those tough questions, are you? I’m not sure I could pick just one. So, instead here are three: Witch King, Starling House, and Warrior Girl Unearthed. Enjoy!
