Lately, I’ve been feeling the need to get out of my bookish shell. In other words, I’ve been craving new ways to interact with the bookish community. However, finding new ways to do so is easier said than done.

So when I saw a post in one of my Facebook groups looking to connect book buddies, I knew it was the perfect thing for me. Basically, I signed on for a three-month book buddy swap, where I and my assigned buddy would swap books.

The premise is nice and simple. The process was even simpler since we shared our Amazon wishlists with one another (made it a lot easier to know what my buddy would like, you know?).

Swapping Experience

The first two months went about as I expected – we happily swapped a book for each month. Not only did I get books I wanted (obviously), but my buddy somehow managed to pinpoint the exact book I wanted to read next. Twice. I’m pretty sure she’s magic.

The third month blew me away. My buddy went above and beyond in the swap, sending me a box of goodies! It was so much more than I expected, and it honestly almost brought me to tears.

Included in my (massive) box of goodies was a set of J.R. Ward books (whom I’ve never read, but now I need to!), a couple of other paperbacks (Girls of Paper and Fire and Kingdom of the Wicked), a Winter’s Rise box (with even MORE goodies inside of that), and some bookish/crafty items like color pencils and coloring bookmarks (I repeat: coloring bookmarks!). I love it all so much. I almost don’t want to use any of it because I’m afraid I’ll destroy it, you know? I’ll get over that soon, though, I promise. Those bookmarks will be colored in no time.

Obviously, I felt the need to try and return the favor to my book buddy, even if I couldn’t go as over the top as she did. So I did the only thing a hardcore fan could do: I sent her a set of my favorite indie books, complete with signed bookplates and stickers. With any luck, there will be a new Brindi Quinn fan in the world soon.

Final Thoughts

This book swap experience was one-of-a-kind. I’m sure every swap feels that way, and that’s pretty awesome. I don’t regret the attempt at all and will probably jump at another round of it in the future (assuming I don’t totally miss the sign-ups; I’m good at doing things like that).
