I seriously do not know where the year is going. It was just a week ago that I was planning my vacation, and yet it’s already over (obviously I’m exaggerating, but that’s how it feels!).

I’m still having trouble wrapping my head around the fact that it is officially fall. You’d think the leaves changing colors and dropping off the trees would have been a good hint for my brain…and you’d be wrong.

Still, I love fall. The way it smells. The colors. The flavors. All of it! So I wanted to celebrate with a couple thematic book tags.

Autumn Book Tag was created by Jenniely (I believe). And it looks like fun! Let’s begin:

Hot Chocolate: What Is Your Comfort Book?

I’m going to cheat a bit and answer with a series: The MurderBot Diaries. There’s a bit of irony, as I feel like MurderBot is to me, what Sanctuary Moon is to MurderBot. It’s my go-to relax series. I have three different copies of the series: a physical set, the audiobooks, and I’m buying the Graphic Audio books as they come out. Thus far, I adore all three version.

Pumpkin Carving: What is Your Favorite Creative Outlet?

Writing! Shocking, I know. But seriously, I really do enjoy writing. I also enjoy photography, though I’ve been slacking on that creative outlet, lately. It’s something I hope to get back into – I’m feeling the need for another creative outlet in my life.

Falling Leaves: Changes That Appear Bad But You Secretly Love

Hrm. Tough one. I’m trying to embrace mistakes more. A mistake means that I tried. Sure, I didn’t get it right – but it’s better to try and fail, than it is to never try at all.

Pumpkin Spiced Latte: Something You Love That Others Tend to Judge

Oh! I feel like all readers will have that one genre they love, that they know everyone else loves to mock. For me, it’s paranormal romance. I love a good paranormal romance book, but there’s no denying that some book snobs look down on the genre. Personally, I can’t get enough of it.

Bonfire Night: What Makes You Explode with Joy?

Books. Comics. Cats. I don’t think I could pick just one thing, even if I wanted to. Basically, I love being myself, and I like what I like. Is that a good answer?

Fright Night: Favorite Scary Book or Film

I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for zombie movies. I don’t normally love gore-fests, but zombie movies hit different. My (current) favorites are the first three Resident Evil Movies and probably World War Z. Though I reserve the right to change my mind.

Halloween Candy: Favorite Thing to Eat

Dark chocolate. I know, it sounds like a stereotypical answer, but I really do love it! And I justify my dark chocolate snacks because they’re anti-inflammatory. That’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it.

Scarves: Your Autumn “Must Have” Accessory

Uh, not to be too on the nose here, but scarves! I have a small hoard of scarves. Small in comparison to my book hoard, that is. It’s probably an absurd amount, but I love them all. And I obviously have a couple of favorites that I wear more than the rest. And don’t get me started on how many scarves I’ve knitted over the years…

Fire: A Book or Film That Burns Your Soul

Gideon the Ninth. It just hits hard. I recently listened to the audiobook (for the hundred time, I swear), and it feels like I noticed a dozen new things that I had missed the last time. Plus, I love The Locked Tomb community. It’s hilarious and so welcoming.

I would give just about anything to see an adaptation of Gideon the Ninth (and the ensuing novels). Please.

Toffee Apples: A Book or Film That Seems One Thing But Really Has a Different Inside

Practical Magic. Okay, it’s probably the autumn vibes that made this one my go-to response. But I love how different the book and movie are. Normally I hate it when a movie deviates, but it works for Practical Magic. You don’t get what you expect – but you love it anyway.

Happy Autumn!
