Off-Balance is yet another short story set in the world of the InCryptid series by Seanan McGuire. This one belongs to Alice Healy (as a reminder, the series has many perspectives, so it can take some work to keep it all straight!).

Alice Healy has a way of finding trouble, doesn’t she? A lot of that has to do with her refusal to think about herself first. She’d much rather have an adventure. And honestly, it’s natural teenage rebellion, given how hard her father pushes her.

Off-Balance is sweet and short. It’s the story that makes it easier to understand how these two fell in love. If you can, try to read this before the latest Alice novel (Backpacking Through Bedlam). I think it offers helpful insight into their relationship.
