Ohhhhh boy. Don’t go reading this one if you’re unprepared to read about a pandemic. Seriously – it’s going to get you hard. Given the release of this one (July 2020), it’s clear what Seanan McGuire had on her mind when she wrote this one.

In this world, it has been nothing but a series of pandemics. It all started with one. And then a scientist had reason to strike back at the world. So now the world is always hurting. As expected, some people in the world are hurting more than others.

So, it’s safe to say that this one hurt. I think because, in some ways, it was simply too plausible. All we need to do is look into our recent history to understand the horror and hurt bundled into Ratting.
