Over the years I’ve seen a game bouncing back and forth between book bloggers and vloggers called On My Shelf. The core concept is pretty simple: number each book on your shelf, and then have fellow readers pick a number at random. You are then to write about that correlating book – you can write about anything related to this book – the story behind it, why you bought it, what you loved about it, etc.
All credit to Iain Broome, whom I’m fairly certain is the original creator of this super fun game. Or at least the first one I saw doing this. However, I’m going to modify is slightly in my case. I’m going to use a random number generator as a way of choosing which book to write about.

Starsight by Brandon Sanderson
“A hero does not choose her trials. She steps into the darkness, then she faces what comes next.”
Okay, so admittedly, this is probably one of the more awkwardly designed shelves I have. So, of course, my randomizer decided to highlight it! My luck, in a nutshell. There – I addressed the elephant in the room—time to move on.
Starsight is the second novel in Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series. It’s also the first series of his that I’ve been reliably reading as it comes out (I swear I’m working on the rest! He writes so fast, and there’s already such a backlog).
I adore Spensa. She’s quirky and a little bit crazy, but she’s a fantastic protagonist. It’s impossible to do anything but root for her. The second novel in the series is arguably a bit more intense, but it also hit its groove. Now we’re just waiting on the fourth novel in the series. I can’t wait to see how it goes.

“When you’re young, you can assume that everyone older than you has life figured out. Once you get command yourself, you realize we’re all just the same kids wearing older bodies.”
