The Magician and the Maid had a lot of potential; the core concept was interesting and pretty solid. It lost me a little bit on the follow through, however. I found myself more attached to the fairy tale versions of the characters, and quite disliking the ‘human’ versions. It made it difficult to wish for a happy ending for them both.
I would have loved more details about the fairy tale side of their worlds, or at least some more stories from it. For example, how did Miles end up with so many different elements from other fairy tales? I know the conclusion is a somewhat obvious one (the same way he captured Audra), but I would have liked to actually see that part of his world developing. Why was he gathering those bits? Was he trying to gain something else instead (either power or access back home?) or did he intend to grab what he did? I don’t know, and I wish I did.
