There’s something so enchanting about reading a book about a reader. Maybe it’s because we can relate (obviously), or maybe it’s something more profound than that. Either way, we are lucky to live in a world full of books about books.
I’ve been trying to read more of these books lately, so I’m going to collect a list of some of the highest-recommended ones below. Feel free to join me in my reading journey.
Fantastical
- The Wishing Game – One teacher’s quest to win the price takes her back to the heart of her childhood.
- The Starless Sea – Magical doors, library cats, hidden cities, and an enchanting mystery, all woven into one tale.
- The Library of the Unwritten – A library located in the neutral space of hell, where all the unwritten books live. Chaos ensues.
- Ink and Bone – The Great Library has become a governing entity in every city. Despite these laws, Jess continues to read illegal books and is tasked with infiltrating the library.
- Sorcery of Thorns – Elisabeth was raised to be a warden of the Great Libraries – until she’s framed and forced to work with a sworn enemy. Strong enemies-to-lovers vibe.
- The Princess Bride – As you wish. The classic tale as told by one grandfather to his grandson. True love, revenge, monstrous beasts, the works.
- The Invisible Hour – Have you ever loved a book so much that you would go back in time to marry the author?
- The Bookstore Sisters – Two sisters. One grounded. The other is on the run. From what? Her past, mostly. But a letter calls her home – to the neglected family bookstore.
- A Novel Love Story – Eileen has given up on a real-life happily ever after. She’ll settle for her books, thank you very much. Until one day, she finds herself transported to the setting of her favorite series.
- The Hazel Wood – A daughter’s determined quest to get to the bottom of her mother’s secret history, taking her deep into the realm of fairytales and more.
Hard Hitting
- Fahrenheit 451 – A classic warning we should all read and heed.
- The Midnight Library – Get your tissues ready. Nora Seed has been given a once-in-a-lifetime chance – to see her other lifetimes.
- The Book Eaters – There are creatures who thrive on the words in books. Literally, they devour books to stay alive. Devon is one such creature, though she makes the hard choice to run from her family.
- The Neverending Story – An enchanting story that has traumatized many of my generation (and after). A classic story within a story.
- The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek: Cussy Carter is a blue-skinned 19-year-old who makes her living by taking books along a dangerous path in Eastern Kentucky.
