Over the years I’ve seen a game bouncing back and forth between book bloggers and vloggers called On My Shelf. The core concept is pretty simple: number each book on your shelf, and then have fellow readers pick a number at random. You are then to write about that correlating book – you can write about anything related to this book – the story behind it, why you bought it, what you loved about it, etc.
All credit to Iain Broome, whom I’m fairly certain is the original creator of this super fun game. Or at least the first one I saw doing this. However, I’m going to modify is slightly in my case. I’m going to use a random number generator as a way of choosing which book to write about.

The Luminaries by Susan Dennard
“That’s why we’re called the Luminaries, Winnie: we are lanterns the forest can never snuff out.”
Oh! The Luminaries! This book was fun. And maybe not for the reason you’d think? I remember when Susan Dennard was playing around with the concept on Twitter – she let fans vote and choose the actions for Winnie. It was a unique experience, and I was thrilled when it became a novel (series).
It’s also funny timing for this pull since the sequel (The Haunting Moon) is out on Nov. 7. Funny how things work out, right? Anyway, I’m looking forward to the sequel because The Luminaries left me on a cliffhanger.
Thus far, I have enjoyed both versions of The Luminaries experience. Also, it’s worth noting that the version of The Luminaries is just my standard (reading) copy. I have a nicer version from OwlCrate, but that got tucked away on my OwlCrate shelf. I probably should have considered putting the two books together…hrm.
