52 Weeks of Literary Crafts: Hogwarts Savings Piggy Bank

Hogwarts Savings Piggy Bank

First: sorry in advance. I forgot to take pretty photos of this one before I gave it to my friends (another baby gift).

Hogwarts Savings Piggy Bank

I wanted to make a piggy bank for my friends’ new baby, but of course I wanted to stick with the Harry Potter theme. I had this idea in my head to twist ‘college savings’ into ‘Hogwarts Savings’ and this was the end result.

The witch hat (which also looks like the sorting hat when you look at it closely) is made out of femo clay, the piggy bank I bought at Michaels. The paint I used is the oven bake sort, designed for ceramics. I wanted to do everything possible to make sure that the paint would stay, and that it would be easy and safe to clean.

If I had the chance to do this one over I would have liked to make sure that the Hogwarts fit more evenly on the pig’s side. I don’t like how far back it ended up going. Clearly I should have planned it a bit better! But on the whole I’m fairly happy with how it came out. Not bad for a relatively last minute gift, right?

About Liz (AKA Cat)

I am an avid animal lover, photographer, graphic designer, and much more. I love to create art, and am willing to try any artistic technique at least once. I am particularly fond of artworks involving a lot of emotion and color. The purpose of my blog is for me to be open and honest with myself and the world about my attempts to grow as an artist. My other major passion is reading. My TBR pile is larger than I'll ever be able to read, and yet I can't resist adding to it on a nearly daily basis. I love to read science fiction & fantasy, graphic novels, and pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I have a couple of blogs, as you can see. One is primarily my photography, while the other are my book reviews. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
